You could tell it was no ordinary day when we came down to breakfast in the Landa hotel on Thursday, June 2nd. The room was festooned with balloons, cards and banners. No, it wasn’t a display from the Landa Nanographic Printing® Presses, but a celebration for Benny Landa’s big day – the day he turned 70.
And what better place for him to do that than with the people he loves – his wife Patsy and family plus his extended family of Landa employees. The astonishment in his eyes as his came down to breakfast to the tune of “Happy Birthday” was a joy to behold and I am not sure he actually got his breakfast as he made his way round the room.
The fun continued before the show opened. At our daily briefing Benny was called on the stage where he presents his five times a day show and the tables were turned with a special show for him; a review of his career and some of the jokes, stunts and japes that he is renowned for pulling. It culminated with a spoof on his famous “Debbie Does Dallas” answer to Guy Gecht at a recent EFI Connect conference, when a large cake containing “Debbie” was wheeled on stage and out popped Guy Gecht amidst much laughter.

The birthday proceedings were concluded with a big gathering in the evening to which Benny had invited all his Israeli staff to attend – flying them out in two chartered jets to Germany, together with Industry leaders, friends and family. Following a moving family tribute and a wonderful present of a model of his first Indigo press from Alon Bar-Shany from HP Indigo, the party went on late into the night. One thing is for sure when you are working with Benny Landa – there’s never a dull moment.
