When I heard that my Landa colleague, Product Line and Segment Manager, Ohad Axelrod, was going to Goa to speak and wanted some sales support, I was on the case like a shot. I reckoned a few days in a balmy South Indian resort on the Arabian Sea at the end of February were just what were needed. I had mentally packed my sari, flip flops and swimming costume, and was working out how to get there when he corrected me….
GOA, he explained, was Graphics of the Americas. Not the former Portuguese colony which is now India’s smallest state. Instead, Ohad is heading for Orlando, Florida and a keynote presentation. Which means – another sunshine trip for my lucky North American colleague Kristof Dekeukelaere, hot on the heels of his trip to Las Vegas for the EFI Connect conference.

I, on the other hand, am now heading for an altogether more exotic delight – Birmingham, in the heart of the Industrial Midlands of the United Kingdom for the two day Print Innovations conference. I am not expecting to need the sunscreen there on the 27th and 28th February, but I am nevertheless looking forward to meeting many of the delegates to the trio of Print Innovations, Packaging Innovations and Labelling Innovations events at the former IPEX site of the NEC.
I have a slot on both days to present “Nanography® – from concept to commercial reality” in the free learnShops seminar. Without giving too much away – because I hope you will come and watch the show – I will be explaining the birth of Nanography from a glint in the eye of Benny Landa to the plans for the first beta site installations of the B1 sheetfed presses at the end of this year and the web packaging presses in 2014. My discussions with our customer group, which we established at drupa and that currently tops 400 members, indicate that digital printing has yet to make the impact on packaging that it has on commercial marketing print. But there is a pent up demand from brand managers for the sort of benefits that it will bring them. I am expecting an audience of both brand managers, keen to learn more, and manufacturers wanting to know what their customers will be demanding. The week before, in the sunnier climes of the Orange County Convention Center, Graphics of the Americas delegates will have heard from Ohad about the “second digital printing revolution”. Ohad will be looking at Nanography from a commercial printer’s perspective and elaborating on the global commercial printing trends that will be affecting them.
At the start of the month, Gilad Tzori, Landa’s VP of Product Strategy, will be giving one of the keynote presentations to the delegates of the Technical Association of the Graphic Arts in the altogether cooler North American climate of Portland, Oregon. So in February, whether you are in sunny Florida, chilly Portland or even colder Birmingham, the Landa team would be delighted to meet you.
Mind you, I would still would prefer to be on the beach in Goa...
