To drupa and beyond

Thursday, 14 June 2012 | By Hazel Spiro

After ten years of research, engineering and intensive planning, the elements were in place for a successful drupa tradeshow. But there were no guarantees.

Six weeks ahead of the opening of drupa, Landa’s build-up team arrived in Düsseldorf equipped with over sixty tons of new printing technology, several tons of NanoInk® and a team of carpenters, electricians and engineers.

While they came with a game-changing vision for the future of the printing industry, would the analysts, the media and the customers understand, accept and share the vision? The first breakthrough came on April 27, 2012, when Komori, a print market leader, entered into a strategic partnership with Landa to manufacture and market digital presses based on Landa Nanographic Printing®.

Then by the time drupa began on May 3, 2012, Landa had already acquired the endorsement of another two industry heavyweights, manroland sheetfed and Heidelberg – and the second digital printing revolution was well and truly on its way.

During the two weeks of the show, Benny Landa presented his new category of printing called Nanography® and 40,000 visitors to the Landa stand watched the presentation from inside the theater and on the big screen outside the theater where it was streamed for those who could not get a seat inside; the press covered the Landa story in 350 articles spanning 20 different languages; and hundreds of customers signed letters of intent despite the fact that the presses will only become available at the end of 2013. The positive response of the industry was astounding and customer demand was beyond expectations!

The lightning fast developments of the past months have been thrilling. The positive reaction of industry players, and the level of interest from printers and the trade press strengthen our conviction and commitment to supplying Landa Nanographic Printing® technology to the market at the end of 2013.

Whoever had the chance to see Benny Landa’s “Nano. Bigger than you think.” at drupa or perhaps has seen it on YouTube, might remember his concluding sentence, “I hope that you leave today saying to yourself: ‘I have seen the future – and it’s worth waiting for.’”

Judging by the reaction so far, the glimpse of the future Landa provided at drupa has certainly fired the imagination of the industry, and many people are waiting and have even put their money on it.
